Suicide Attempt By Uber Driver on Third Mainland Bridge ( SEE NOTE)



That moment an Uber driver tries to kill himself

An Uber drive known as Hammed Olojo, 31-year-old was rescued by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on patrol of Third Mainland Bridge while trying to Jump off the bridge.


Olojo drove himself to the bridge in a Toyota Corolla saloon car, packed beside the bridge for a while, sat in the car and wrote his suicide note. The RRS patrol team were watching and monitoring him. They saw him come out of his car and made his way towards the bridge to jump and restrained him.

 Olojo as gathered is an ex-convict who has been battling life challenges since leaving prison. He  explained why he had attempted to kill himself to ACP Tunji Disu the RRS commander, saying that he is in debt, owning  N10,000 in Court 3, Ikeja High Court and  have not been able to meet his obligations to the owner of the vehicle he is using for Uber taxi as he has fallen short of remitting N80,000.00 to him and the car owner has threatened to take back his car. He lamented that things are falling apart in his life. He explained that his wife has been supportive but her words were not enough for him as he has made up his mind to end it all. In summary, he was tired of life


His suicide note found in the car reads in part “I killed myself because of the challenges I have been facing in life. I tried my best and everything has come to nothing."

He also added in the letter that he was owing a creditor N10,000 in Court 3 of Ikeja High Court and N80,000 for the owner of the Uber car he was driving.

The car owner identified as Kalejaiye who was at RRS office in company of his wife noted that for two weeks, he had not remitted N40,000 per week lease to him yet and he Kalejaiye, has been maintaining  car. He confirmed that he told him to hand over the car last Thursday, August 24, but at no time did he threatened him.

Confirming the development, Police PRO stated that the case had been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
